School Closed

Dear Parents,

The staff of SPMA did an amazing job at preparing the classrooms and school!  Thank you for picking up from school early today.  It was appreciated!

At this time, school will be closed on Friday, September 8 through Monday, September 11, at minimum.  We will continue to update families.

Safe travels!

Hurricane Irma update

Wednesday, September 6  3:30 pm

Dear Parents,

As of right now, we will be closing school at 3:00 pm [tomorrow] Thursday, September 7.  There will be 1:00 and 3:00 dismissals.  There will be NO crew or after school activities.  School will remain closed on Friday, September 8.

Though this is an “early call,” we need time to plan and prepare the classrooms.  We had a vast amount of damage last year from Hurricane Matthew, which also taught us a lot about our surrounding water flow.  In hopes of being able to open more quickly and with less damage, we have a large to-do list.  A Thursday early dismissal and closure on Friday allows our teachers to enact both professional AND personal plans.  When we met as a staff at 7:30 this morning, we decided that we would rather do all this prep work and the hurricane miss us, than chance an evacuation order over the weekend leaving the classrooms unprotected.  Tomorrow’s dismissal time is subject to change based on newer information.  A resulting change would mean an earlier dismissal, not later.  Be sure to check your emails often.

We hope that everyone remains safe over the course of Hurricane Irma and any severe weather associated with the storm.  SPMA will continue to provide weather and school alerts/announcements in the coming days.

If you have questions or are in need of resources, please don’t hesitate to ask.

mid-week updates

We are watching Hurricane Irma and continue to stay in contact with Town officials.  Please continue to check email for pertinent information.  Thank you!

Dear Parents,
I hope this email finds you doing well! I am reaching out to you to inform you that SPMA will be starting a Golf Team during the 2017-2018 school year. I am sending this email to gauge student interest.
My plan is to offer golf to students in Grades 4-8. The fourth and fifth graders would be a club team.  We would hold practices, but there would be no “meets” against other schools for this level.  The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade team would be certified by SCISA, would play by SCISA rules, and would have meets against other schools. (SCISA only allows participation in meets for grades 6-12).  Also, this will be a “Boys’ Team” according to SCISA, but girls may participate. The girls’ season is in the fall.  If there is enough interest, we can look into starting a girl’s team in 2018-2019. At this point, it makes sense to have both boys and girls who are interested play on this team so our future track can already be past the planning stage. (Girls can play on the boys’ team, but boys cannot play on the girls’ team per SCISA rules).
There is a lot to do between now and the start date of the season in 2018, including the purchase of uniforms, scheduling, finding a course to practice on, making sure students have clubs, arranging travel, etc.  Therefore, I wanted to send this out as soon as possible so we can decide on fees, requirements, etc.
For those of you who are interested, please send an email to me stating that “(Your child’s name) is interested” along with their age/grade/experience, so I have an idea of what to expect in terms of numbers.  I can be reached at
We will also be having a basketball team [or teams] this fall. An email will come out later on that.  Basketball will begin around mid- to late October.  I have already reached out about scrimmaging other schools. We are also in discussion of possibly reviving our club volleyball team, so please be on the lookout for that as well.
Finally, for those of you who are interested, I am attaching the SCISA Golf rules (below) so that you and your son/daughter can get caught up on the playing rules and regulations.
This is an exciting time for SPMA and its athletics’ programs and I truly appreciate all of your support!

First Day!

Tomorrow is the first day for all students!  We cannot wait to have a full house.  We cannot stress the importance of being on time.  If you start the year making good habits, they have a better chance of sticking.

Upper School arrival: 8:00-8:15am

Lower School arrival: 8:15-8:30am

Reminders for carpool:  We service 3 cars at a time.  Please always pull up to the first stop sign.  Do not get out of the car unless we ask you for help.  It makes it more challenging to monitor who is watching the children.  If you need extra time, there are spaces to the left of the bus that are marked by the pedestrian “men” where you can pull up and take your time.  Occasionally we will also ask you to pull forward if we are having difficulty safely unloading.  Students should remain seat-belted until your vehicle stops at one of the unloaded spaces.  After you drop your child off, we encourage you to park and come in for coffee and say hello!  We are excited to catch up and get to know all of our new families!

Please turn in your music forms ASAP!  We would like to finalize a lesson schedule.  Thank you!
