Exciting News!

January has not even left the building, but we are already making plans for next week, next month, and next year!

NEXT WEEK: The PTO has planned the next Moms’ Night Out event!  Join them on Thursday, February 2nd from 5:00-7:00 pm for twice the fun!  Moms (no kids) will meet upstairs at The Art Cafe and finish downstairs at Bombora’s Grill.  Bringing a friend is encouraged!  To RSVP, please contact Tiffany Ruwadi at

NEXT MONTH: Join us as Music Week begins!  There is still room to sign-up and help with this year’s musical. The PTO has posted sign-up sheets in the lobby.  Don’t forget to clear your calendar for a night of enchantment on Friday, March 3!

NEXT YEAR: After finishing the planning stages, we are excited to announce Sea Pines Montessori Academy’s Project EARTH.  Students in grades 6-8 will be leading the forefront in ecological studies in South Carolina.  Expanding on the Salt Marsh STEAM Curriculum, our students will be testing and tracking area water quality, flora and fauna levels, and recording observations of human impact.  Stay tuned for details of this unique program!

Reflections & Sign-Ups!

Today is such a special day.  Martin Luther King, Jr. was a civil rights activist who worked tirelessly to promote equal rights for all while championing peace.  As a Montessori community, the notion of work through peace is close to our hearts.  We take this moment to reflect on how his efforts have changed our society.  There is still a lot of work to be done, but how blessed we are to have had such a strong leader to pave the way.

parent-teacher-conferences-550x0Sign-ups for Parent-Teacher Conferences have been placed in the lobby.  Unsure of what to ask?  Please feel free to meet with me (Mrs. Cotter) first.  Read some of my Parent Questions, too!

March 3 will be here before we know it!  Calling all volunteers to help!  The PTO has placed Musical Sign-Up sheets in the lobby.  Join the fun!

Don’t forget your new or gently used coats for our drive!

School picture ORDERS end this Friday!

Please place all Picture Day photo orders by Friday, January 20!  Pictures for the musical will be taking place soon and we don’t want orders to overlap.  Contact or send in your School Photo Order Form.

The Jr. Beta Club Winter Coat Drive has begun!  Please send in new or gently used coats.  Even though temperatures are going up, it’s still cold at night for those without homes or working heat.  A box for donated coats has been placed in the lobby.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back SPMA!  We are so excited to see everyone at carpool tomorrow and hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season.  Please get back into routine even though it’s tempting to sleep in or have a slow morning.  All students should be in classrooms no later than 8:30 am!

Due to ongoing Hurricane Matthew related expenses, we will not be attending this year’s National AMS conference in San Diego, CA.  While we greatly benefit from attendance, it is a big expense that must be redirected to building and grounds at the moment.  Instead, we will be seeking closer, less expensive professional development options throughout the remainder of the year.  We look forward to attending again next year!  DUE TO THIS, NOTE OUR CALENDAR CHANGE: We will be OPEN on Thursday and Friday, March 9 and 10.  These will be full, normal school days with Crew.  Also note, on Monday, April 17, school will be closed.  This was originally marked as a delayed opening, but will now be a teacher workday so that we can reset our classrooms after Heritage.  Thank you!

Thank you for filling out our Basketball Club Survey!  We are excited to announce that Basketball Club will begin next week.  Coach Ben is hosting an information session on Thursday, January 5 at 3:00 pm.  To sign up and read more from him, please view his WELCOME LETTER!

It’s not too late to order your child’s school photos!  For more information, please contact or print your School Photo Order Form.
