It’s hard to believe that just 4 months ago we were preparing to re-open the school after catastrophic Hurricane Matthew hit the island. Our school was not without damage, and we have been working tirelessly to address each area, small and large.
We are happy to announce that all projects are nearly complete and we anticipate that the final classroom (the Blue room) will return to their original class at the end of the month. Upcoming projects will include: re-flooring the school lobby, exterior construction for new drainage systems, roof assessments, and the building of new cubbies/shelving units. Almost all of our submitted damaged materials/items were approved for replacement (yay!), minus a hefty depreciation amount (yikes!). We are in the midst of prioritizing our replacement lists. I am very grateful to the Board for their wedding gift last year of a stay in Kiawah and gift card to the resort. Alex and I donated it back to the school, and our teachers who were unable to attend the AMS conference in San Diego were able to attend the MEPI (Montessori Educational Programs International) conference held in Kiawah. This was a savings of nearly $8000 to the school during a time when we really needed to save. Thank you for your support!
It has been a challenging time for the island, our families, the school, and community businesses. However, we feel stronger, closer, and more appreciative of one another and of what we have.
Thank you all for your support. We could not be more blessed to have an amazing family base. Sea Pines Montessori Academy will continue to develop and advance as it has for nearly 50 years on the island. We aren’t going anywhere, and it took a hurricane to prove it!

Reminder- No school on Monday!
The next PTO Meeting will take place next Tuesday, February 21 at 5:45 pm. This evening meeting is held in conjunction with the SPMA Staff Meeting so that all teachers can attend and participate. Don’t miss out!
Thank you to all of the PTO Officers (Mackenzie Strauss, Tiffany Ruwadi, Meghan Green, Erin McMackin, and Whitney Hughes) for their continued support in the PTO’s inaugural year. They have been doing some wonderful things for the school and its community. Please join the final meetings and events of the year as we keep the momentum going!
Musical week arrives in 2 weeks and help is still needed! Information about the week went home to all young actors and actresses. Please read each day’s listing very carefully. There will be no crew for all students on Friday, March 3! We encourage the entire SPMA community to attend Aladdin!
Enrollment is around the corner! We are so excited to begin setting the stage for the 2017-2018 school year. Re-enrollment can be quite a busy time, so if you have not already booked your observation morning, don’t delay. Rising students will begin visits soon. Feel free to meet with Mrs. Cotter or classroom teachers for questions about your child’s academic and social journey!
SAVE THE DATE! Move-Up Night will take place on March 27! We will be offering another re-enrollment incentive for your attendance, so mark your calendars for an awesome night!
