Thank you to all of the parents for joining us for Parent Teacher conferences last week! We loved seeing all of you throughout the building. The next set of conferences will take place in January.
The Parent Ed Cafe scheduled for tomorrow will be re-scheduled in the coming weeks. We would really like to have as many parents participate in these events as possible. Be stay tuned for a brief survey about times/days that work best for your family.

Congrats to Coach Ben for being chosen as SPMA’s Teacher of the Year! In this quick start to the school year, Coach Ben has done wonders for the Athletics and Fitness program including incorporating fitness with the younger primary students, installing much needed fitness equipment in the multipurpose room and green space, inspiring a huge cross country team to reach personal bests, and creating a year-long plan that will bring additional sports and fitness activities to our school. He will be honored at the Sea Pines Country Club this Thursday. GO GATORS!
Congratulations to the Middle School students for being accepted as participants in the island’s Student Government Day!
Student Government Day (“SGD”) is an opportunity for civic-minded sixth through tenth grade (6th through 10th grade) students, selected by an application process, to spend a day at Town Hall and experience first-hand our local government in action, learning about the policy-making procedures and operations of municipal government.
Participants will meet the Mayor, Town Council Members, Town Department Heads and Town Staff, and will engage in discussions with them about important Town matters. They will learn about the services provided by Town government and play the roles of Mayor, Council Members, Town Staff and Citizens in a Mock Special Town Council Meeting.
The Hispanic Cultural Fiesta will be celebrated this Friday, October 27, from 9:00 to 12:30 as in-school assembly. This will be a cultural extended lesson to students about the Spanish speaking countries including food tasting, arts, music, dancing and fun. Parental attendance is not required. We hope to make this a whole-school experience next year. This year, we would like to keep this relatively small. Unless we can guarantee 100% parent participation, it is too hard on our youngest friends to see some parents attend but not their own. We promise to take pictures!
We are asking each student to bring in (2) $1 bills. One dollar will be given to the taqueria cart so that the students can experience purchasing an authentic taco, and the second dollar will be a donation for Puerto Rico Hurricane Irma Relief- specifically to the Hispanic Federation’s Unidos Page, where at least 90 cents of every dollar goes directly to relief funds. You can begin to send the money in throughout the week, where it will be collected until Friday.
